And There’s A Next

The present progressive tense expresses actions that are unfinished or in progress.

To the person you’ll be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year,

One of the things that life’s about is change. Change + ING. Changing. As in, you are changing. They are changing. You are changing while they are changing. All present progressive. A process happening right now. And this process isn’t always gonna look how we expect it to. You can try to measure the change over time, and every so often, the slope appears positive. Like that time you were recovering from your ankle injuries. Wheelchair to walker to cane to just your own two feet. Sure, the process wasn’t easy but it was one that you could overcome with time and effort. The physical stuff tends to be easier for our eyes to observe and for our minds to manage. But sometimes, when there isn’t a clear or positive path for whatever change it is that you want, it just means you gotta wait. Because the next step, chapter, episode, verse, part—and that’s just it! There is a next. And you can wait for it. That part can be just as exciting as the outcome. Wait for the next. Rest in the now. Remember not to put too much pressure on yourself wherever you are. It’s important to give yourself time and space to define the kind of change you want. Nothing needs to happen immediately. Don’t overthink it. Opportunities will come and go and we do something with them given our sense of time, energy, and willpower.

Sincerely, Esther
